Dr. Goel's Story

Dr. Goel often says that she didn't choose neurology, but neurology chose her. During medical school, she enjoyed all aspects of medicine. After graduating from medical school in India, she came to the United States for further training. She sat for the United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLEs) and while she was preparing and waiting for the results to come back, she reached out to several physicians to see if she could volunteer and help with their research. One of the physicians who responded happened to be a neurologist and allowed Dr. Goel to help with stroke research at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School. This was the start of her journey in neurology.

Dr. Goel went on to engage in stroke research at the University of Washington in Seattle. She then completed her residency in neurology, which involved a year of internship at the University of Louisville in Kentucky and three years of intense training at the University of Texas Medical Center in Houston. She then completed a fellowship in neurophysiology at Columbia University in New York City.

Dr. Goel really enjoys clinical neurology and joined a community hospital in New York State, where she practiced for several years. She served on the quality improvement and ethics subcommittees at the hospital. Dr. Goel always dreamed of having her own practice, and that's how Prime Neurology was founded.

Dr. Goel also enjoys teaching, and to support this passion, she works as an attending physician at a teaching hospital, where she works with residents and contributes to the education of future physicians. She is also on the board of the New York State Neurological Society.
